The Global Liveability Index released every year by the Economist Intelligence Unit with the simple idea of ranking cities on its living conditions. Known for its stable nature, culture and healthcare. Vienna has been declared as the best city to live in.
Measuring the liveability of cities is done on 5 broad categories. 1)Stability : Indicators being prevalence of crime, civil unrest and military conflict.
2)Healthcare: Availability of good quality healthcare and over the counter drugs. 3)Culture and environment: Level of censorship, availability of sporting facilities, social and religious restrictions. 4)Education: Availability of education and its quality. 5)Infrastructure: Road network, Public transport, Quality housing and communication. Governments which invest in these categories have seen the fruit of their results in ease of living for their residents. The cities of Damascus (Syria) and Tripoli (Libya) are facing wars and armed rebellions taking a toll on their stability points. Biggest movers up the ranks. A look at the chart shows that 8 out of 10 cities belong to the Asia-Pacific region. Hanoi moved up 20 spots after the Covid-19 restrictions were lifted. The European cities have had the biggest downfall. Many European nations have been facing stability issues. France has been having protests against the governments new pension reforms. Making cities liveable is a long-term process requires deep planning in core categories like education, health, infrastructure, culture and execution of good governance. Investing in specific regions has shown to have long term benefits to its residents and makes it more attractive for people to live in.
